Roti Prata with a Twist at Springleaf Prata

@Springleaf Prata: 57B Jln Tua Kong, Singapore 457253
I love the evergreen comfort breakfast go-to - Roti Prata. Springleaf Prata serves what has to be one of the best pratas in Singapore - crispy on the outside, and fluffy on the inside.

Spingleaf Prata has been creating unique prata versions, integrating classics from other cuisines. In our prata venture, we tried:

  • Umami 50 - prata stuffed with luncheon meat, egg, cheese, mayonnaise, chicken floss.
You hardly go wrong with any combination of luncheon meat, cheese and egg. But to add chicken floss and mayonnaise, now that's something different. This was Eileen's favourite!

  • Plaster Blaster - prata topped with eggs benedict
The prata replaces the traditional muffins in this variation of eggs benedict. Complete with hollandaise sauce, think of it as getting a crispier (and oilier) dose of carbs in this. For those who can't do without eggs, this would be a great choice.

  • Prata Alfredo - prata with mushroom, chicken, cheese and alfredo sauce filling.
This was my favourite - oozing creaminess and stretchy cheese. The portion is good for sharing, because all that cream might just be too much for one person to handle.

We also ordered a piece of the classic plain prata, just because!

Of course, the usual prata offerings are on the menu like the onion prata, murtabaks and tissue prata. What's interesting to check out is also the dessert prata range which includes red bean and chocolate banana flavours. Apart from the prata range, there are variations of thosais, soups, curries and fried noodles/rice that you just have to pay another visit!

ANA (All Nippon Airways)’s first overseas venture has officially checked into Changi Airport Terminal 2 (Public area) in mid-November 2017! Japanese cuisine foodies and travellers will be thrilled to know that SORA (which translates to ‘Sky’ in Japanese), a Japanese food gourmet food hall is home to six Japanese exciting brands. The 7,760 ft space, modelled after an airline lounge, seats up to 300 diners and also happens to be the largest restaurant across four terminals in Changi Airport.

With oishii options like ramen, sashimi, okonomiyaki and Nippon-inspired desserts and beverages, diners can order food from any of the 6 restaurants and bar and sit at the shared seating area in the middle of the food hall. The seating options also come with nifty features such as tables fitted with charging points for mobile electronic devices and an interactive Kid’s Corner complete with playground and a television screen.

1. Tsuruhashi Fugetsu

Renowned Okonomiyaki chain from Osaka makes its overseas debut in Singapore. Be sure to try their signature Japanese savoury pancakes made from fresh cabbage, yakisoba (fried noodles), meat & seafood! The Worcestershire-mayo-bonito flakes mix topped over these pancakes makes it all so flavourful and decadent! Prices start from S$13

2. Japoli Kitchen

Freshly made pizzas and pastas with Japanese finishes, perfect for those who wants the best of both worlds. This new-to-market brand surprised me their range of pizzas, made using pizza dough specially imported from Japan. All of us has nothing but praises for the Mentaiko Pizza, absolutely love at first bite! Mmmm. Prices start from S$10.80

3. Tendon Konhaku

This Edomae-style popular tendon brand is no stranger to lovers of tempura don. Great news for easties who now do not need to brave the long queue in Suntec branch! Think Hokkaido rice adorned with crispy tempura drizzled in tendon sauce. There is also a spicy option which I am particularly fond of! For less than $20 a bowl – this tendon with generous varieties of tempura pieces is a total steal! Prices start from $16.60

4. Menya Takeichi

One of Tokyo’s top chicken ramen chain which serves collagen rich broth! The velvet- smooth thick creamy broth due to hours and hours of simmering makes every mouthful a bliss to have, accompanied with tender chicken slices and QQ chicken balls. Another hot favourite of ours! Prices start from $13.90

5. Kuro Maguro

Launched by eminent fish wholesalers from Japan, be assured of the freshest catches air-flown in daily from Japan.  The dishes available are meshi (rice dishes) with kaisen (seafood) and torobutsu (tuna).  You can indulge in the Toro Butsu Meshi (Tuny Belly with rice) for under S$30, pretty good deal I say! Other dishes start from S$18

6. Tokyo Sundubu

This hearty Korean stew Sundubu Jigae branch is from Tokyo Sundubu, a Japanese restaurant chain. With prices starting from $15, you can get the ultimate comfort bowl of treasure trove of handmade tofu (from Japan of course!), vegetables and ingredients such chicken, beef, asari (sake-steamed) clams and shrimps with up to 4 levels of spiciness!
